More About Us
Hoopfontein’s name is derived from the geographical area that has, over the years, consistently delivered good production. Our aim is to create a sense of hope, fluidity, flexibility, and above all, unconditional love for nature and animals. Our main focus is on animal health by using natural remedies to ensure adaptability to the environment and its challenges.
-MANAGEMENT-
The Hoopfontein Stud is managed by Suné Hayward. She completed her Agriculture degree at the University of the Free State, after which she gained experience at various farms in the Eastern Cape. Her love for animals and nature was nurtured from a young age on their family farm and is truly inspiring to witness.
Cape Lob Ear Goats Thrive in the Wild Heart of Albany
The Hoopfontein Cape Lob Ear stud is operated in the beautiful valleys of the Lower Albany (Alexandria/Grahamstown) area. Here, not only caracals and jackals roam, but also leopards, which pose a threat.
The picturesque Albany Thicket biome offers stunning views, where the hardiness of the Cape Lob Ears is tested daily by heart water disease and the long distances they cover each day. This natural conditioning and selection result in desirable traits, leading to exceptional maternal instincts and fertility.
The genetic composition of the Hoopfontein Cape Lob Ear stud primarily began with the blending of genes from Gelykfontein and Lasarus. From this offspring, goats with desirable traits were selected.
We only use natural mating, with Addo and Albert being our main sires so far. We look forward to seeing the results of our stud rams Vlokkies, Vigour (Deon Vlok), and Burgundy (Lasarus) in the near future.
